OUR STORY
Riverina Fresh has been part of the Riverina community for over 100 years, with a history shaped by local farmers, evolving industry needs and a relentless focus on quality.
1922 – The beginning
Our story starts in Wagga Wagga, where local farmers formed the Murrumbidgee Co-Operative Dairy Co, to process and supply fresh dairy to the region. The first product made was actually ice!
1920s -1930s – Butter Production
Butter was the main product made by the company in its first twenty years, with volume significantly increasing in the 1930s.
1940s–1970s – Growth and capability
Milk treatment and pasteurisation capabilities were introduced, strengthening quality and consistency. By the 1970s, operations expanded through partnerships and mergers leading to broader supply across regional NSW.
1980s – Expansion and diversification
The business continued to grow through acquisitions and new product lines, including yoghurt production and expanded dairy processing.
1990s – Evolving with the market
With changes in ownership and structure, the business adapted to meet shifting market demands, strengthening both manufacturing and distribution. By the late 1990s, Riverina Fresh had built a solid foundation as a trusted regional dairy supplier.
2000s – Building a modern dairy business
Riverina Fresh worked closely with its farmers following deregulation of the dairy industry in July 2000. In 2005, the business was acquired by Fonterra, and continued to invest in manufacturing and quality systems.
2016 – Back to independent ownership
Riverina Fresh returned to 100% Australian-owned, independent status - continuing to focus on local farmers, quality milk and long-term sustainability.
Today – Milk for coffee and beyond
Now operating across the Riverina, NSW/ACT and VIC, Riverina Fresh continues to produce award-winning milk, cream and dairy products. It's also a food service distribition business, that supplies a broad range of foodservice products to its customers across the East Coast of Australia. In 2025, it was awarded Grand Champion at the Australian Grand Dairy Awards for its Lactose Free milk.
While the business has grown, one thing hasn’t changed - our commitment to sourcing the highest quality milk from our farmers in the Riverina Region and delivering products that perform, every single time.
